The Abridged History on this site is taken from the booklet written in 1977 by the then Lt Col Miles Hunt-Davis and Maj Evan Powell-Jones. The chapter The Final Years 1977-1994 has been added by Lt Col Brian O’Bree. Those who wish to delve more deeply into the history of the 6th Gurkha Rifles should read the full Regimental History. The first two volumes cover the periods 1817-1919 and 1919-1948, Charles Messenger’s ‘The Steadfast Gurkha’ covers 1948-1982 and James Lunt’s ‘Jai Sixth’ covers the whole history up to 1994. Copies are available to read at the Gurkha Museum in Winchester.
